What we look at

Nothing's missing

The unglamorous one, and the most common problem: no cooler on a CPU that doesn't ship with one, no OS, no case fans in a case that came with none, one SATA cable short.

The parts fit each other

Socket and chipset, memory generation and speed the board actually supports, GPU length and cooler height against the case, M.2 slots against the drives you picked.

The power supply has headroom

Rated wattage against real peak draw, the right connectors for your card (12V-2×6 vs 8-pin), and an efficiency tier that isn't a false economy.

The money is in the right place

Where you're paying for a spec that won't show up in what you actually do, and where spending a little more genuinely will.

We track prices across the industry every day, so we'll tell you if something on your list is above its usual number or about to be replaced.

Questions

How much does a parts-list review cost?
Nothing. Send the list, get a real answer back. We only charge if you ask us to build it, and you approve that price before we start.
What do you actually check?
Whether every part a working PC needs is on the list; whether the CPU, motherboard, memory and case fit each other; whether the power supply has the headroom your graphics card wants; whether anything is over- or under-spec'd for what you're doing; and whether a cheaper part would do the same job.
Do I have to use PCPartPicker?
No. A PCPartPicker link is the easiest thing for us to read, but a pasted list, a screenshot description or a rough set of notes is fine too. If we can't tell what a part is, we'll ask.
Will you just tell me to buy a prebuilt?
Only if it's genuinely the better deal, and we'll show you the machine and the price so you can judge for yourself. We publish a cross-brand catalog of prebuilt systems, so we can compare your build against every major brand at the same budget in a couple of minutes.
